East Liberty - Negley Avenue, 1962
Scope and Contents
Subseries 1 contains approximately 2,300 35mm projector slides. The slides were likely used to support URA staff presentations and generally do not provide comprehensive overviews of projects. The images tend to capture scenes before or after redevelopment activities.
Neighborhoods in the North Side are particularly well represented due to the City of Pittsburgh’s application for an Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG) in 1978. The $20.1 million was earmarked for low interest mortgages for the purchase and repair of houses in six North Side neighborhoods: Central North Side; Perry South; Allegheny West; East North Side; Manchester; and California-Kirkbride (though no images for California-Kirkbride are present in the subseries).
Redevelopment projects in East Liberty and the Lower Hill District are also featured heavily in the subseries.
