Series 8: Senate Subcommittee on Housing Testimony, 1957
Scope and Contents
Series 8 contains copies of testimony from three days of hearings before a Senate Subcommittee on Housing, which were held in Pittsburgh in the Federal Building at 700 Grant Street from December 11 to December 13, 1957. The series includes testimony from a variety of political leaders and governmental organizations, including Pittsburgh Mayor and URA Chairman David Lawrence, the Housing Authority of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Planning Commission, the Human Relations Commission, and other members of City and County departments and organizations. The series also includes testimony from civil rights organizations, including the Pittsburgh branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Urban League of Pittsburgh.
Theodore L. Hazlett Jr., executive director of the URA, gave testimony on the first day of hearings, but copies of his remarks are not present.
