Series 5: Public Relations Material, 1946-1997 (bulk 1980s)

Series 5 contains public relations material produced or collected by URA staff, including articles from magazines, pamphlets and URA publications. A file entitled “Organization of the URA” contains the text of communications from Mayor David Lawrence concerning the creation of URA; a press release from a public relations firm concerning various endorsements of Mayor Lawrence as Board Chairman; and two memos about the purpose, functions and powers of the URA. Also of note are two narrative overviews of the URA and its history: “Urban Redevelopment: The First 40 Years” (1986) and Forging the Pittsburgh Renaissance (1997), the latter of which was produced for the URA’s 50th anniversary. Some of the collected press material pertains to the URA specifically, though many of the articles concern redevelopment in Pittsburgh in broader context.
